We're back to paid styles, which I've totally forgotten apparently, given how much I panicked when I cranked up IE to have a look see. *grumbles about IE and transparent .pngs* Brushes for the gimp can be found here. Images are of Miss Hayek, check the entry page for the links as I can't be arsed. Oh yes. Fonts galore to be found at fontfreak.com. **A word (or several dozen) on layouts. Ok, I never thought I'd feel the need for a note of this nature, being that I don't think I'm that great at layouts, but lately individuals have begun to present themselves to me in ways that are less than...courteous. So, here are my rules for help with layouts. 1. I will happily help anyone on my friends list. If you ask me to add you, wait a fair while to ask me for help of this nature. Let's at least avoid the appearance of disingenuousness. :P 2. I will, to an extent to be determined by my mood, help individuals who can present their cases at least semi-cogently. Perhaps I'm showing my age, but I appreciate the little things in life; a punctuation mark here or there, spelling that resembles by at least 90% the word it intends to represent, things of that nature. I am unlikely to make a layout for you unless we've spent time together here or elsewhere, so unless you are reasonably certain that I am fond of you, consider it presumptuous to ask anything off of me for free. Because those are the two resources that taught me pretty much everything I know about lj layouts, and the best gift, in my opinion, is direction to self-sufficiency.Want I should show you my past layouts? My (at the time) four-year-old is a star with creative language, so I asked her what I should call it. Without hesitation, she shouted something that sounded like, 'elly-ah,' and thus was the domain christened. Since she was named by her father after an old handle of mine (ach, ze geekiness), I decided I should migrate to another before handle conflict started to be a problem. It may or may not be of interest that I self-identify as a Unitarian Universalist. In the absence of any real set of ethics with which to order my thoughts and actions, I have chosen to err on the side of the following principles: "(1) the inherent worth and dignity of every person; (2) justice, equity, and compassion in human relations; (3) acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations; (4) a free and responsible search for truth and meaning; (5) the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large; (6) the goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all; and (7) respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part." Which, coincidentally, are precisely the principles of UU. The tradition I identify with most closely as a centering point is that of humanism--"teachings which counsel us to heed the guidance of reason and the results of science, and warn us against idolatries of the mind and spirit." It's not that I hold disrespect for more spiritual worldviews but in engaging life as a human, from the perspective of myself solely, I can both experience my own life more fully and not feel as though I'm continually taking creative license in deciding what I believe. With hesitation I accept my data, and what my processer does with that data, as the source of any intuition, wisdom, or knowlege I may seem to possess. For me, acknowleging my fallibility and my spacial and temporal limitations, all is mystery. The task in life is to construct for myself a life that has meaning within an inner framework that claims none. I've always enjoyed masochistic turmoil of this sort. ;) The odd outcome is demonstrating itself to be that although I am still mired in neuroses and misgivings and fear, the person I see in my internal mirror is a person I recognize, and, ultimately, a confident and authentic version of myself.
